The first report of the Industry Taskforce on Peak Oil and Energy Security (ITPOES) was published during the final quarter of 2008. It highlighted the probability that future oil production volumes are unlikely to rise much above the record global extraction rate of 87Mb/d achieved in July 2008, and that this will not match rising global demand.
